MOSCOW, June 4 (Sputnik) - Lokomotiv Moscow head coach Yuri Semin said on Monday that he believed that Lokomotiv and Russia players, midfielder Anton Miranchuk and his twin brother striker Aleksey Miranchuk, had a chance to show their worth at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
“I believe in them. They are great guys… The twins have a good chance [to show their worth at the World Cup], so let them use this chance,” Semin said as quoted by the RT television channel.
Russia’s final World Cup squad was announced on Sunday, with the Miranchuk brothers making it into the list, while Lokomotiv captain Igor Denisov was not called up.
“This is the decision of [Russia head coach] Stanislav Cherchesov, and I can’t influence him in any way. I can say that Igor [Denisov] was a huge help last season, he is extremely important to Lokomotiv,” Semin added.
Lokomotiv were crowned Russian champions on May 5, claiming the title for the first time since 2004.
Russia will host its first-ever World Cup from June 14 to July 15, with the hosts set to face Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Uruguay in Group A.
