Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani has avoided a serious injury and has a chance to start for Uruguay in their quarter-final match of the 2018 World Cup against France, the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) said Monday.
On Saturday, Group A winners Uruguay beat Portugal 2-1 in their round of 16 match, eliminating reigning European champions from the tournament. Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani scored a double, but was substituted in the second half due to injury. Uruguay will next face France in the quarter-finals in Nizhny Novgorod on Friday.
According to AUF, earlier on Monday Cavani had undergone medical tests before it was revealed that he had damage of muscles of his left leg without rupture of muscular fibers. Currently, the player is recovering and training individually. The period of his rehabilitation has not been mentioned.
The association added that the other players of the Uruguayan national team had no problems with health ahead of the upcoming match.
