The Egyptian lawmakers' request to open a probe into the national team's early exit from the World Cup does not include complaints about Russia's Chechen Republic, where the team was based during the tournament, Chechen Minister of National Policy, External Relations, Press and Information Dzhambulat Umarov said on Monday.
In June, a member of the Egyptian Parliament's Committee of Youth Affairs and Sports told Sputnik that the committee had demanded an investigation into the national team’s performance after Egypt lost all three group-stage games and were knocked out of the tournament.
According to Umarov, the Chechen authorities asked the Egyptian Embassy in Russia to explain what exactly the parliament was investigating.
“We asked to explain what the request is about, who made it and what in particular does the document say. I can announce that there is not a single word in the document regarding the Chechen Republic and the conditions of the Egyptian national team’s base,” Umarov told journalists, adding that the committee’s request was addressed to the country’s football federation.
According to Umarov, the federation said that the conditions of the national team in Chechnya were good.
