Russia head coach Stanislav Cherchesov said on Thursday that he did not want to lose midfielder Alan Dzagoev due to injury, since every member of his squad was important.
The 27-year-old CSKA Moscow player sustained a hamstring injury in the 24th minute of the 2018 FIFA World Cup opening match at the Luzhniki Stadium, in which the hosts thrashed Saudi Arabia 5-0.
"Judging by the way [Alan] Dzagoev stopped, he could be seriously injured. He will undergo medical tomorrow. So I don't mislead anyone, let's wait to see what the medics say. I don't want to lose a player, because the tournament has just started... Every player counts," Cherchesov said at the press conference.
