Villarreal and Russia midfielder Denis Cheryshev said on Saturday that Russia should forget their victory over Saudi Arabia in the 2018 FIFA World Cup opening match and move on.
"We should work together... in order to defeat Egypt. We are in a good mood, we should forget the victory over Saudi Arabia and move on. I try not to mind the increased attention to me, it will hinder me, I should forget the first match," Cheryshev told journalists.
Russia thrashed Saudi Arabia 5-0 in the World Cup opening game at the 78,000-seater Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on Thursday. Cheryshev, who scored a double, was named man of the match.
The hosts will play their next game against Egypt, who lost 1-0 to Uruguay on Friday, in Saint Petersburg on Tuesday.
