Russia midfielder Cheryshev said on Thursday that he never dreamt of scoring twice on his World Cup debut and would just be happy to be a part of Russia's squad.
The Villarreal midfielder came on as a substitute in the first half and scored twice during the World Cup opening match earlier on Thursday where Russia defeated Saudi Arabia 5-0.
"I could never have dreamt of anything like this. I already felt very happy just to be the squad. My second goal, we spent some time working on that during training sessions. I was trying to be up there with [Artem] Dzyuba, he won it with a header and I just kicked the ball - I didn't have time to think!" Cheryshev said as quoted by the FIFA website.
