BEIJING, June 15 (Sputnik) – Chinese Vice Premier Sun Chunlan wished a successful 2018 FIFA World Cup and good luck to the Russian national team during her meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Chinese State Council said on Friday in a statement.
The meeting took place on Thursday in Moscow where the Chinese vice premier attended the opening ceremony of the world cup.
"The Russian people are very enthusiastic about the football world cup, such a great sports event. We are sure that Russia will organize a brilliant tournament and demonstrate results of the country’s social and economic development to the world. We wish a successful world cup and good luck to the Russian national team," Sun said, as quoted by the statement.
The Chinese vice premier submitted to Putin good wishes of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Putin asked Sun to submit his good wishes to Xi and expressed his gratitude for attendance of the opening ceremony of the world cup.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off in Russia on Thursday with the Russian national team having beaten Saudi Arabia with the score 5:0.
