Senegal head coach Aliou Cisse said Monday he was sure an African team will one day win the FIFA World Cup.
Cisse's squad will face Poland in their first 2018 World Cup Group H match at the Spartak Stadium in Moscow on Tuesday.
"I'm sure that one day an African team will win a World Cup. Our [African] teams did not play at World Cups until 20 years ago but we have been more than just participants for a long time. We have no problems with playing against European teams," Cisse told journalists.
The Senegalese team is currently taking part in their second-ever FIFA World Cup. During their first appearance at the tournament in 2002, Senegal reached the quarter-finals, eventually losing 1-0 to Turkey in extra time.
