On Wednesday, Costa Rica drew their final Group E match with Switzerland 2-2 and were knocked out of the tournament after failing to pick up any points in their first two matches against five-time World Cup winners Brazil and Serbia.

"I'd like to thank Russian fans for support. It was great to feel that kind of support. I don't know why but our team is popular abroad, people usually like us and welcome us warmly," Ramirez said at the post-match press conference.

Ramirez also said that the tournament was a "unique" experience despite Costa Rica failing to qualify for the round of 16.

"As for my future, tomorrow we will get back home and then we'll see," he added.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will continue until July 15, with the matches being played in 11 cities across Russia.
