"We have lost two friendlies [to England and Belgium], no one likes to lose, but it was just a preparation... for the World Cup... We have to write a new history now... The team represents our country and our family. We'll do anything for victory tomorrow," Gonzalez told journalists.

The captain added that Costa Rica hoped to show on Sunday that they had learned from their mistakes.

"They [Serbia] are one of the greatest teams, they work intensely, and we are ready to cope with this challenge," Gonzalez said.

The games of the 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held at 12 stadiums across 11 Russian cities till July 15.

Costa Rica will play five-time World Cup champions Brazil, Serbia and Switzerland in Group E.
