Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois said on Saturday that his team was happy to finish third at the 2018 World Cup even though they came for victory at this summer's tournament in Russia.
Belgium beat England 2-0 in the third place play-off in St. Petersburg earlier on Saturday, which is their best ever result at a World Cup. They had previously finished fourth at the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico.
"We are very happy even though we were coming here for the gold in order to win the World Cup. We tried to show our maximum and but couldn't manage to win in the semi-final. We are happy with the third place. We have a team of winners. We want to achieve success at the Euro in two years and at the World Cup in four," Courtois said.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on 14 June and will come to a close on Sunday, with France facing Croatia in the final at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium.
