Croatia head coach Zlatko Dalic said he was “amazed” by the decision of midfielder Luka Modric to take a penalty attempt in the shootout after missing one in the extra time.
Croatia and Denmark advanced into extra time after a 1-1 draw in a round of 16 game on Sunday. In the 116th minute, Modric attempted a penalty, which was saved by Denmark's goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.
In the penalty shootout that followed, Modric took another attempt, and found the back of the net.

“I am amazed by Modric’s actions, by his morale," Dalic said post-match.
"Yes, he did not score a penalty in the extra time, but then he went again and scored. Can you imagine what could have happened if he failed for the second time? His determination shows that he is a great player."
Croatia ended up winning 3-2 on penalties and will face Russia in the quarter-final on July 8 (AEST) in Sochi.
