NIZHNY NOVGOROD, July 2 (Sputnik) - Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel said on Sunday that he appreciates organization of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Denmark lost to Croatia 3-2 on penalties after they drew 1-1 after extra time in their World Cup Round of 16 match in Nizhny Novgorod on Sunday.
"I just want to thank everybody here in Russia. They welcomed us, looked after us. Everywhere we've been we've been treated really well, everyone looked after us. There have been no issues or problems anywhere. The pitches, the stadiums, the fans - everything has been fantastic and we are really upset that we're not going to experience it anymore," Schmeichel told journalists.
The 31-year-old goalkeeper was named the man of the match after saving two efforts during the shootout and a penalty from Croatia midfielder Luka Modric in the final minutes of the extra time.
Croatia will now play against Russia in the quarter-final game on July 7 while Denmark left the tournament.
