France head coach Didier Deschamps said Saturday that forward Kylian Mbappe was even quicker than former Brazil striker Ronaldo, but it was not right to compare such a young player with a World Cup winner.
France beat Argentina 4-3 in the first round of 16 earlier on Saturday, advancing to the quarter-finals of the 2018 World Cup. Mbappe, who is 19, scored two goals and earned his side a penalty, which was successfully converted by Antoine Griezmann.
"Comparing of Ronaldo and Mbappe? Brazilian Ronaldo was a very quick forward. Mbappe, I think, is even quicker, but he also needs space. Mbappe also likes to play in the center of the attack, but we compare the 19-year-old player with the world champion, so I wouldn't like to do this," Deschamps told reporters.
In the last eight, France will face the winner of the Uruguay-Portugal match.
