Croatia head coach Zlatko Dalic said the British media's disrespect for Croatia's players was an additional motivation for the team in their 2018 FIFA World Cup semi-final match against England.
Croatia, whose previous best result was their third place at the 1998 World Cup, beat England 2-1 on Thursday (AEST) and advanced to the final for the first time in their history.
"Before the match, English media showed disrespect for us," Dalic said
"It's strange, if you look at the clubs in which our players perform. We deserve this respect now. This was our additional motivation.
"But first of all we wanted to reach the final for our country, for our fans."
Croatia will take on France in 2018 FIFA World Cup final in Moscow on Monday (AEST).
