"For football as of today the doping rate has been one of the lowest in all sports, it is below 0.1%," Samoura said at a meeting with Russian upper house speaker Valentina Matviyenko.

She added that the World Cup in Russia had been the safest global tournament ever and the host nation had done everything possible to provide the necessary level of security.

“The World Cup is not over but I am convinced that every single measure has been taken to make it the safest for the sports players in a World Cup ever,” Samoura said.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on 14 June, with the final set to be held at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on Monday morning.
