Julian Draxler has paid tribute to teammate Mesut Ozil on the eve Germany's campaign to defend their World Cup title.
Draxler said the Arsenal star and fellow FC Schalke product was perhaps "the most creative player" in the team.
"Mesut Ozil is an extraordinary player. Perhaps, he's our most creative player. There's no doubt that he's very important to the German national team," Draxler said.
The PSG midfielder also urged his team to maintain "tradition" by avoiding defeat against Mexico in their opening match.
"Mexico has never defeated Germany. It's a new tournament, and history doesn't matter, but we hope that we will hold up tradition, and Mexico won't defeat us," he said.
Germany have brought just ten of their 2014 World Cup-winning squad with them to Russia, with a number of long-term mainstays like Philipp Lahm, Per Mertesacker and Miroslav Klose having retired and been replaced with a new young generation.
Draxler thinks there's a perfect mix in the squad.
"We have many young strong players, some of them have used the chance to show their worth at the Confederations Cup. It is very important for us to have players who have won the World Cup, they know how to start such tournament," said the 24 year-old.
The holders and four-time World Cup winners face Mexico at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium at 01:00am AEST tomorrow, with games against Sweden and South Korea to come in Group F.
