"Today, Yuri Zhirkov will continue training individually in the gym. Alan Dzagoev will start practicing on the pitch and will work will certain limitations," the team said on Twitter.

Dzagoev, who missed Wednesday's training session due to back muscle problems, had sustained a hamstring injury in the World Cup opening match on 14 June and had to sit out Russia's next three games, including their penalty shootout win over Spain that saw the team through to their first-ever World Cup quarter-finals.

Zhirkov was substituted at half-time during the Spain win with scans later confirming that he has a calf muscle tendon inflammation that could rule him out of the national team's World Cup campaign.

Hosts Russia are currently gearing up for the Croatia showdown in the last eight, which will take place in Sochi on Sunday morning.
