The Liverpool star damaged ligaments in his shoulder during the first half of their 3-1 defeat by Real Madrid in the Champions League final on May 26 following a challenge by Real's captain Ramos.

"Salah is in a stage of recovery not just for treatment on his shoulder. We need to improve his demeanor and his fitness level because the injury has prevented him from training as a normal player. But we have very good news from our doctor, we hope he will be with us before Uruguay," Cuper said as quoted by the UK daily The Telegraph.

The 25-year-old was included in Egypt's final 23-man squad for the World Cup, with previous reports suggesting it would take Salah up to three weeks to recover, meaning he could miss the Uruguay clash, set to be played on June 15.

"He's [Salah] important but if he's not fit in time we will be ready with another player. This is football, these things can happen to any player. We could need to substitute him, but we hope that won't be the case," Cuper added.

Russia will host its first FIFA World Cup from June 14 to July 15, with the fixtures set to be played at 12 stadiums across 11 cities.

The host nation and Egypt, along with Saudi Arabia and Uruguay, have been drawn in Group A.
