Over 10 percent of Russians believe that the national team can win the upcoming 'home' FIFA World Cup, a poll conducted by the the Russian Public Opinion Research Center showed on Friday.
According to the poll, 11 percent of the respondents believe that Russia could lift the trophy, while almost 20 percent of Russians do not expect the national team to reach the knockout stage.
Germany and Brazil are the World Cup favorites with Russians, each supported by 12 percent of the respondents.
The poll also showed that Portugal star striker Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentina captain Lionel Messi were the most popular foreign players with the respondents.
The poll was conducted among 2,000 respondents over 18 years of age on May 31 and June 2, with the margin of error not exceeding 2.2 percent.
Russia's first-ever World Cup will be held between June 14 and July 15 at 12 arenas in 11 cities across the country. Teams will play in Moscow, Kaliningrad, Saint Petersburg, Volgograd, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Saransk, Rostov-on-Don, Sochi and Yekaterinburg.
