The hosts will play their next game against Egypt in St. Petersburg on Tuesday, before facing Uruguay on June 25.

"The following games [against Egypt and Uruguay] will be harder but it is possible [for Russia] to beat Egypt and Uruguay,” Jakubko said.

On Thursday, Russia thrashed Saudi Arabia 5-0 in the World Cup opening game at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium.

“Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised by Russia [game with Saudi Arabia], I was at the match, the outcome was surprising. The guys were good, did well, earned the win. Saudi Arabia did not create any chances," he added.

The games of the 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held at 12 stadiums across 11 Russian cities till July 15.
