Russia defender Mario Fernandes says his side was feeling "strong" ahead of their FIFA World Cup match against Spain.
Russia qualified for the knockout stage as Group A runners-up and face Group B winners Spain in the last 16 on Monday morning AEST.
"Nothing will change in the Spain match. We played well against Uruguay despite losing 3-0. We'll continue playing just as well in the knockout stage. We should always respect Spain, they have a great team anyway. We've had a great preparation, and we're strong ahead of facing Spain," Fernandes told journalists.
The 27-year-old, who was born in Brazil and acquired Russian citizenship in 2016, also praised his CSKA Moscow teammate, midfielder Aleksandr Golovin.
"He's a great player, he has a bright future. The Spain match is important for all of us, including Golovin," Fernandes added.
