Brazil midfielder Fernandinho received racial insults across social networks following his side's 2-1 defeat at the hands of Belgium, where he scored an early own goal to hand Belgium the lead in their encounter on Friday, the France-Presse news agency reported on Saturday.
According to the agency, some Internet users called Manchester City midfielder "a monkey," while others were sending him death threats. Fernandinho's mother had to make her Instagram account private because of insulting comments. However, dozens of Internet users supported Fernandinho.
