"The results are extremely clear and extremely positive. There were over 440 checks so far, there were 19 reviews in the 62 matches... There were 16 decisions changed. Changed means from a wrong decision to a right decision... And from the 440 checks... 95 percent were already correct. Thanks to VAR we increased from 95 [percent] to 99.32... It's not 100 percent, but it's 99.32 percent which is better than 95 percent," Infantino told journalists.

He also said that VAR meant progress for football with the system helping to make the world's most popular sport more transparent without changing its essence.

"Progress means to make things better, to improve things compared to the past. This is progress, this is better than the past. VAR is not changing football, VAR is cleaning football, is making football more honest, more transparent, helping the referees to take the right decisions," Infantino said.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will come to a close on Sunday, with France facing Croatia in the final, which will be played at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium.
