MOSCOW, May 25 (Sputnik) - The preparatory activities for this summer’s FIFA World Cup will help "improve the quality of security" in Russia, first deputy director of the Russian National Guard (Rosgvardia) Sergey Melikov said on Friday.
"We have already accomplished a number of tasks assigned to the National Guard. These are, first of all, ensuring security at the FIFA Confederations Cup and preparing for the 2018 World Cup. During the preparations for these large-scale international events we noticed some things that we needed to implement in order to improve the quality of security for both citizens and visitors of our country,” Melikov said on the sidelines of the "Advanced technologies for the law enforcement agencies" forum in the Moscow Region.
He added that the quality of security improvement could be achieved through working on command and communication systems and monitoring places of mass gathering, as well as identification of various prohibited items.
The FIFA World Cup will be held in 11 cities across Russia from June 14 till July 15.
