MOSCOW, July 17 (Sputnik) - Football fans, World Cup volunteers and accredited journalists made 5 million free rides in Moscow's public transport during this summer's tournament, the press service of Moscow's Transport Department told Sputnik on Tuesday.
"During the World Cup, from June 14 to July 15, fans, volunteers, FIFA accreditation holders, policemen, who came to work at the tournament from other regions, and journalists from the World Cup press center made five million free rides in Moscow transport," the press service said.
According to the department, most passengers used the metro to travel around the city, while around a million passengers used free shuttle buses and surface public transport.
Russia hosted its first World Cup from June 14 to July 15 with the games played at 12 stadiums in 11 cities across the country.
