In their final Group C match on Tuesday, France, who had already secured their place in the round of 16 after two consecutive victories, played out the first goalless draw at this year's tournament against Denmark.

"We've come here with great expectations, it was tough but we made it past the group stage," Deschamps told journalists on Tuesday.

The head coach added that France was not the only team struggling in their Group as two-time World Cup winners Argentina and reigning champions Germany have yet to find their best form.

"We may have done better, but we shouldn't focus on that. It's tough for everyone, take Argentina and Germany. We're realistic, we achieve goals that are possible to achieve. There is room for improvement," Deschamps said.

In their round of 16 match, France will face Argentina, who squeezed into the knockout stage after a late 2-1 victory over Nigeria on Tuesday. The game is set to take place in Kazan on Saturday.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will continue until July 15, with the matches being played in 11 cities across Russia.
