MOSCOW, June 11 (Sputnik) - France head coach Didier Deschamps said Monday his squad's form left something to be desired, just a few days before the 2018 World Cup kicks off in Russia.
"We are coming [to the World Cup] not in our top form, we are busy with training. Players are now under pressure. While preparing [for the World Cup] we are focusing on our speed, on our 'explosive' playing style," Deschamps told journalists.
He added that France usually plays with three defenders, but they could switch to a back four against Australia, as the Australian team is "very aggressive."
"They know how to play in defense. Our strikers are more mobile, so there won't be much defending to do in the match against Australia. We need to be balanced in the game, [because] players' physique will be very important in this game," Deschamps said.
France, who won their only World Cup on home turf in 1998, were drawn in group C and will play their first World Cup match against Australia in Kazan on June 16. They will next face Peru in Yekaterinburg on June 21 and Denmark in Moscow on June 26.
The French team arrived in Moscow on Sunday and will be based in the town of Istra, just outside Moscow, during the World Cup.
