France players do not consider themselves to be among the favorites to win the FIFA World Cup in Russia, the team's goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris said on Friday.
"We do not consider ourselves favorites [of the World Cup]. There are Brazil, Germany and Argentina. Every match is a challenge for us. If we look too far ahead, we can fail. We are just thinking about tomorrow's game, and that's all. The tournament has just started," Lloris told journalists.
France, who claimed their only World Cup title on home turf in 1998, have been drawn in Group ะก and will play Australia on Saturday, before facing Peru on June 21 and Denmark on June 26.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on Thursday with the hosts Russia beating Saudi Arabia 5-0. The tournament will continue through July 15, with a total of 64 matches set to be played at 12 stadiums across 11 Russian cities.
