MOSCOW, July 16 (Sputnik) - Players from the 2018 FIFA World Cup-winning French national team and their head coach Didier Deschamps will be awarded the Legion of Honor, French media reported Monday.
According to the French daily Le Figaro, the award ceremony will take place in a few months' time with the exact date yet to be specified.
The daily also reported that France's players and coaching staff would be welcomed by French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte at the Elysee Palace later on Monday, after the team's parade down the Champs-Elysees Avenue in central Paris.
Deschamps was awarded the rank of Chevalier of the Legion of Honor in 1998, after he captained the French national team to their maiden World Cup title.
The Legion of Honor is the highest French order of merit for military and civil merits. It was established in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and came to its conclusion on Sunday, with France beating Croatia 4-2 in the final.
