The World Cup is good for growth because victories boost consumers' confidence, French Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire said after France triumphed in the semi-finals.
France won 1-0 over Belgium this morning and will face either England or Croatia in the final at Moscow's Luzhniki stadium on Monday.
"I am not going to cite the GDP numbers to you, but it is good for growth," Le Maire told France 2 broadcaster.
The minister did not explain the exact influence the victory would have on the French economy, but cited the "irrational" factor.
"A victory at the World Cup, that boosts the French people's confidence in themselves. There is an irrational aspect to economy, which is linked to confidence in oneself, desire, enthusiasm," the minister said.
