Peru head coach Ricardo Gareca said on Wednesday that he had doubts about the video assistant referee (VAR) system at the World Cup.
Peru, who lost 1-0 to Denmark in their first Group C match, will face France at the Yekaterinburg Arena on Thursday. The VAR system was used to award a penalty for the first time in France's 2-1 defeat of Australia on Saturday.
"Football is radically different from any other sport, mistakes are inevitable... Refereeing has a number of innovations now. Video replays can be useful, but sometimes decisions are doubtful. Sometimes we are waiting for three to four minutes... I understand that there were good motives behind introducing video replays, but I still have questions about them," Gareca told journalists.
