Peru head coach Ricardo Gareca said on Wednesday that he was impressed by the Russian national team, who had all but sealed their place in the knockout stage of the World Cup after winning their first two games of the tournament.
"Russia have got off to a good start at the World Cup, they have practically achieved their goal of getting past the group stage, they played with lots of confidence... They play at home, but still we should give them credit," Gareca told journalists when asked which team impressed him the most at the beginning of the World Cup.
Peru are set to take on 1998 World Cup winners France in their second Group C match in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg on Thursday.
The Peruvian side are currently fourth in their group with no points after losing to Denmark 1-0 in their first game at the tournament, while France, who beat Australia 2-1 on Saturday, are group leaders.
