Peru head coach Ricardo Gareca said on Thursday that his team had around ten chances to score a goal during their first two games at this summer's World Cup.
Peru lost 1-0 to France in their second Group C match on Thursday, while also suffering defeat in their first encounter against Denmark by the same scoreline.
"During those two matches that we played here, we had about ten obvious chances to score a goal. We weren't so active in defense, didn't press as we did in the match against Denmark, but even in the match against France we had quite enough chances," Gareca told journalists.
The team will face Australia in their final group game at Sochi's Fisht Stadium on Tuesday.
"What our fans have done is unbelievable. I'm very sorry that we couldn't reach the knockout stage. We are very grateful to our fans, this is a completely unique love they have shown for our team. Unfortunately, we couldn't thank them by reaching the knockout stage, but we will do everything to let them see at least one victory of their team at the World Cup," Gareca added.
