Midfielder Yury Gazinsky said on Wednesday that it felt great to become a part of the history after Russia beat Egypt 3-1 in their second Group A match on Tuesday and now qualified for the round of 16 for the first time since Soviet football era.
“Thank you for congratulating [me], we won a very important match… [A lot of] positive emotions, always [feels] great when you become a part of the history. We lacked support before the game, and that is very important. It is always hard to fall asleep after matches [because of] the pressure, emotions,” Gazinsky told journalists.
Following their victory against Egypt, Gazinsky said Russia would be looking to beat Uruguay in their final Group A game and would not be looking to settle for a draw. They will face the South American side on 25 June.
