The defending champions got off their campaign to a frustrating start as they lost 1-0 to Mexico and will next face Sweden in Sochi on Saturday.

"We didn't expect such a game from Mexico. We will develop different tactics against Sweden. The key is not to think about who is your opponent, but to focus on your own abilities and work out efficient tactics that will yield positive results. It's crucial not to be carried away and stay focused," Bierhoff told journalists.

He added that the team still had lots of experience despite having undergone some changes over the past few years.

"Of course if compared to what [we did] 13-14 years ago, it was a bad defeat. However, it's not like the entire 10-year plan has been destroyed," Bierhoff said.

Germany are widely regarded as one of the favorites to win the World Cup, which will come to an end on July 15.
