Germany players were not 100 percent ready for their first 2018 FIFA World Cup match against Mexico, but they will play better in the next match against Sweden, Germany goalkeeper and captain Manuel Neuer said Tuesday.
Current world champions Germany lost 1-0 to Mexico in the teams' first World Cup match at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on Sunday.
"Our players could not organize themselves in the first match of the tournament. We must admit that we were not 100 percent ready for the match against Mexico, we did not produce the kind of game we produced at the 2014 World Cup. Mexico are really strong, they challenged us in things we couldn't cope with," Neuer told journalists.
Germany will play Sweden in their second Group F game in Sochi on Saturday, before taking on South Korea in Kazan four days later.
"I don't think that we should make major changes to the lineup, everyone should just play better in the second match... We are convinced that we will perform better against Sweden on Saturday," the 32-year-old goalkeeper said.
