MOSCOW, May 28 (Sputnik) - Germany midfielder Julian Draxler said on Monday that his team will have to work even harder than four years ago to win the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
“We will have to be even more invested than in 2014. Mentally, we are on top and I believe in the team's strength and will to win,” Draxler said as quoted by the German team's official Twitter account.
The 24-year-old has been capped 42 times for Germany, scoring a total of six international goals, and was part of the country's squad that thrashed hosts Brazil 7-1 in the semi-finals of the 2014 FIFA World Cup en route to winning their fourth World Cup crown.
He was named Germany's captain for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, leading his team to another title and receiving the Golden Ball award as the best player of the tournament.
Draxler has been included in head coach Joachim Low’s preliminary 27-man team for this summer's World Cup, with the final squad set to be announced by June 4.
Russia will host its first-ever FIFA World Cup from June 14 to July 15, with the matches set to take place at 12 stadiums in 11 cities across the country. Title-holders Germany will face Mexico, Sweden and South Korea in Group F.
