Uruguay defender and captain Diego Godin broke the record for the number of World Cup matches played as the captain of his country on Friday, as his side suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of France in Nizhny Novgorod.
This was the eighth World Cup match that Godin had played as a captain.
Obdulio Varela, Horacio Troche and Diego Lugano had each played seven World Cup matches as Uruguay captain.
