Iceland goalkeeper Hannes Thor Halldorsson said Saturday that he 'did his homework' studying penalties ahead of his team's first World Cup match against Argentina.
Argentina were held to a 1-1 draw by Iceland, who were making their first ever World Cup appearance, at Moscow's Spartak Stadium on Saturday.
Halldorsson was named the man of the match after making seven saves in the match, including saving a penalty from Lionel Messi.
"For me as a goalkeeper to play for Iceland at the first game of the World Cup, to face the best player in the world at a penalty is a big moment, it's a dream come true. I did my homework, I looked at a lot of penalties from Messi and I also looked at how I have been behaving in the last couple of penalties so I tried to get into their minds and imagine what they would be thinking about me. So, I had a good feeling he would goal this way today," Halldorsson told journalists.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on Thursday and will continue until 15 July, with the matches set to be played in 11 cities across Russia.
Iceland will next face Nigeria on 22 June and Croatia on 26 June.
