CSKA Moscow and Russia midfielder Alan Dzagoev will not travel to St. Petersburg ahead of Russia's FIFA World Cup match against Egypt, the national team said on Sunday.
Russia are set to take on Egypt in a Group A match at the St. Petersburg Stadium on Tuesday.
"Alan Dzagoev will not fly with the team for the game in St. Petersburg, he will stay in Moscow to continue his rehabilitation," the team posted on its official Twitter feed..
"After the return from St. Petersburg, the physical fitness of the footballer will be assessed and a decision will be made regarding further treatment and rehabilitation tactic."
The 27-year-old player sustained a hamstring injury in the first half of Russia's 5-0 victory over Saudi Arabia in the opening match of the World Cup on Friday (AEST).
Later, the team's midfielder Aleksandr Golovin said that according to the team doctors, it would take Dzagoev about 10 days to recover.
The games of the 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held at 12 stadiums across 11 Russian cities till July 15.
