ROME, July 6 (Sputnik) - Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said Thursday night that he hoped he would come to Russia for the 2018 FIFA World Cup final match.
"I feel at home here [in Russia] and I hope to come to Moscow for the final match," Salvini said as quoted by the Italian news agency Askanews.
However, Salvini's spokesperson told Sputnik that his visit to Moscow "was not scheduled at the moment."
Salvini said that he would like to organize a meeting between Russian and US officials in order to "restore good relationship and cooperation in culture and commerce."
"It's extremely important to involve Russia in fighting terrorism. I'll go there to watch football matches... and I'd certainly try to hold an official meeting on migration and terrorism," Salvini said.
The Deputy Prime Minister added that he considered the South American teams, namely Brazil and Uruguay, the favorites to win the tournament.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will continue until July 15, with the matches being played in 11 cities across Russia.
