Japanese public figures are expected to arrive in Russia to support their national football team at the FIFA World Cup, which kicked off on Thursday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.
"We're expecting the arrival of Japanese representatives for certain matches. However, it's up to the Japanese side to announce this, after all, we're not the ones who are supposed to do it," Peskov said.
Earlier, media reported that Japanese princess Hisako Takamado might travel to the Russian city of Saransk, which will host the World Cup match between Japan and Colombia on Tuesday.
The Japanese national team have already faced Colombia at a FIFA World Cup, when the teams played against each other at the previous tournament in Brazil and Japan failed to move into the knockout stage after suffering a 4-1 defeat.
Japan, who have twice made it past the group stage at FIFA World Cups, will also take on Poland and Senegal in their other two Group H matches.
