England forward and captain Harry Kane said on Friday that his side had "huge belief" that they would be able to beat Sweden if their World Cup quarter-final match ends in a penalty shootout.
England, who beat Colombia on penalties in a round of 16 match, will take on Sweden in Samara on Saturday. Kane is a front-runner for the Golden Boot award at this summer's World Cup, having netted six goals, three of them from the penalty spot, so far.
"Obviously, we've had so much heartache as a country in the knockout games... It was a tough night, playing in front of Colombian fans, it was a tough game. We've come through that, fought to the end and got through in a penalty shootout, it was massive... We have huge belief that if... we go to penalties, we can come through," Kane told journalists.
Kane, who scored 41 goals in all competitions for English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur last season, praised his side's next opponents.
"[Sweden are] Defensively very strong, very compact... They had some great results... I wouldn't say that they've got lots of individuals that stand out, I think the best [thing] about them is that they are together... on the pitch. We know it's going to be a very tough game. We have to be fully focused," Kane said.
