England forward and captain Harry Kane said on Monday his side never gave up hope of beating Tunisia in their opening FIFA World Cup encounter.
"We played very well, especially at the start," Kane said post-match.
"Obviously, a bit nervous, you never know how it's gonna go. We got into the game really quickly, we had a couple of chances, we scored one, probably, could score a couple more... We believed that we will score again."
The Group G encounter was held in Volgograd. Kane scored a winning double, with the first goal in the 11th minute, and the other one in stoppage time after the second half.
The 24-year-old captain said that he did not remember if England had ever had so many chances.
"That's how we wanted to start the game, attack the team, create chances. We could have scored two - three goals and put the game to bed early, but at the World Cup against any team there always gonna be a fight," he said.
England will later face the two other Group G opponents, Panama and Belgium.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will continue until July 15, with the matches set to be played in 11 cities across Russia.
