Iceland goalkeeper Hannes Thor Halldorsson was named the man of the match after making seven saves in 1-1 match against Argentina, including saving a penalty from Lionel Messi, at the Spartak Stadium in Moscow on Saturday.
Argentina’s captain Messi had the chance to put his side in front in the 64th minute, but Halldorsson made a good save to his right to deny the Barcelona forward. In the process, Messi became the first player to miss a penalty at this year’s World Cup.
Both teams are playing in Group D alongside Nigeria and Croatia.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on Thursday and will continue until July 15, with the matches set to be played in 11 cities across Russia.
