"He [the King] has expressed an interest and willingness to attend one of the three group stage matches of the national team [Belgium]. The Prime Minister [Charles Michel] has already informed the Council of Ministers. If the King wants to go, he can, as will the ministers. There are no objections," the Belgian newspaper Le Soir reported citing sources in the government.

According to another source in the government, King Philippe might attend Belgium's second game against Tunisia on June 23 but this has yet to be officially confirmed. Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders is planning on attending this match.

Press officer of the Royal Belgian Football Association Pierre Cornez told Sputnik that more than 5,000 fans were expected to come to Russia for this summer's tournament.

The World Cup will get underway on June 14, with the final to be played on July 15. The matches are set to take place at 12 stadiums across 11 cities.

Belgium will begin their campaign against Panama on June 18 and will face Tunisia five days later. They will play England in their final Group G game on June 28.
