Spain midfielder Koke said on Sunday that the result of their Russia World Cup round of 16 match was "unfair," as his side spent practically the whole game in their opponents' half of the pitch.
The match, which was held at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium, ended in Russia's victory on penalties. The two teams drew 1-1 after extra time, but Russia beat Spain 4-3 on penalties and made it through to the last eight.
"We came here with big expectations. We haven't lost for such a long time... The result is unfair, we've spent all the match on the opponents' half of the pitch. Facing 11 players in the defense is difficult. It was not easy to find some space. Yes, it's painful, but life continues. Everyone tried to do his best for our country," Koke told journalists.
The 26-year-old added that failing to score from the penalty spot "was his fault."
