Denmark midfielder William Kvist, who fractured his ribs during the team's 1-0 victory over Peru, says he still hopes to play a part in this World Cup.
The 33-year-old sustained the injury in the 35th minute of the match last weekend after a collision with Peru's Jefferson Farfan, and was stretchered off the pitch.
"I'm getting better now and it feels good. I'm flying home on Monday to undergo further checks," said Kvist.
He is absolutely ruled out of Denmark's meeting with Australia in Group C on Thursday, and his hopes of further involvement pivot on his teammates making it to the knockout stages.
"One thing I can say for sure: there's much time left till the World Cup ends, if we progress, there's a tiny opportunity that I will play at the tournament," said Kvist in a video posted on his Facebook page.
After their game against the Socceroos, the Danes face France 26 June.
