Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov has left for Moscow to take part in the opening ceremony of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the presidential press service said on Thursday.
"At the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Kyrgyz president left for Moscow today, on June 14 with a one-day visit," the press service said.
Jeenbekov is expected to attend the opening ceremony of the 2018 FIFA World Cup and hold a meeting with the Russian president to discuss Russian-Kyrgyz cooperation.
Earlier in the day, Kyrgyz presidential spokeswoman Tolgonai Stamalieva told 24.kg news agency that Jeenbekov intends to support the football teams of Russia and Germany and perhaps will attend the first match in Group A between Russia and Saudi Arabia.
From June 14 to July 15, Russia hosts the FIFA World Cup for the first time in history, with the matches set to be held in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don, Sochi, Yekaterinburg, Saransk, Kaliningrad, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Volgograd, and Samara.
